Swedish Massage

What is Swedish Massage?

The term “Swedish Massage” refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles. Swedish massage is a deep tissue massage which involves firm, yet gentle long gliding strokes, kneading of individual muscles, friction, hacking or tapping and vibration, which is extremely effective in dealing with muscular and skeletal problems.

The Benefits of Swedish Massage.

Swedish massage is designed specifically to enhance circulation and blood flow to the large muscle groups.  It can help to alleviate back, neck and muscle problems.  It relaxes the nerves and can be helpful with a number of other physical challenges, such as reduction in scar tissue by physically manipulating the fibers of the tissue. Additionally, it can aid with lymphatic drainage, where the long strokes of the therapist help move toxins successfully out of clogged areas.  Interestingly, many clients swear by massage as a way to reduce constipation or digestive upset, since the increased circulatory benefits and relaxation of the abdominal and lower back muscles can help relieve symptoms.

This type of massage can help to prevent fatigue and muscular atrophy which could result in injury. Injury is commonly caused by fatigued muscles that have become shortened (that is, tightened and strained).   Swedish massage creates relaxation to the body, but promotes overall health and well being to the person receiving it.
